Modest Mouse have announced that their first LP in five years, An Eraser and a Maze, will arrive on June 5, marking their first project originally released on bandleader Isaac Brock’s Glacial Pace Recordings. The album was produced by Brock with assistance from Jacknife Lee, Suzy Shinn, and Justin Raisen. Brock began working on the new album following the release of The Golden Casket in 2021, and he considered sharing the initial offerings as a release under his short-lived Ugly Casanova project, who returned earlier this year to play their first show in nearly 25 years.
“For this one, I turned off my filter and just let it all happen,” Brock shared. “Thoughts, emotions, feelings, all that stuff…you’re like the soup, and it’s not always easy to pick out the ingredients. I don’t dwell on things much. I don’t grieve much. I’m not sure I’m a person. I feel like I should have more feelings than I do. But then, you know, I’ll sing stuff. And I’m like, Oh, there it is. Oh—it’s in there.”
