As CD Ghost, Cody Han and Blake Dimas create a dreamy synthpop sound that at times recalls the early 2010s chillwave movement, at others goes straight to the source of ’80s pop music for inspiration. Following their 2022 full-length debut, the LA-based duo is returning this summer for a second album titled When the Rain Stops, preceded today by the lead single and title track. The new tune’s relaxed instrumental immediately brings “Eyes Without a Face” to mind, albeit a more contemplative, melancholy take on that 1983 hit. “‘When the Rain Stops’ is a vulnerable midtempo groover about waiting for someone you love to find their way back to themselves,” the band shares. “The track weaves a thread through shame, grief, and, ultimately, catharsis.”
The synth- and electronic-percussion-heavy track comes with a video directed by the duo which sees them performing in both an empty void and a space that looks a whole lot like my first office job, which sure felt like being in an empty void.
