Mexican Institute of Sound and Meridian Brothers have recruited Beck for a new single entitled “Ritmo Babilonia,” which will be included on the forthcoming collaborative album Ruido Tovar. A new version of Rigo Tovar’s 1981 track “El Festival De Mi Pueblo,” this latest single is one of two tracks on the collection featuring Beck.

“Camilo [Lara] played me Meridian Brothers years ago and I loved it,” Beck shared. “I immediately told him I wanted to make some music with him. A lot of my childhood was around East LA. Cumbia has been in the background my whole life since I was a small child. It was playing in shops and cars and on the street. When you work with great artists who have taste and feeling to the music, the song just kind of makes itself. The first instinct feels right because you’re in the right place at the right time with the right people. That’s very much how ‘Ritmo Babilonia’ felt.”

Rooted in the Mexican tropical sounds of the late 1970s and early 1980s, Ruido Tovar will be released this Friday via Ansonia Records. Check out “Ritmo Babilonia” below, and pre-order the record here.
