For those of you lucky enough to have made it through childhood without learning yourself, Krampus is the opposite of Santa Claus. Basically, what happened was that at some point in the “development” of western civilization, the idea of bad children being “punished” by a satanic horned creature was deemed a little bit much, and it got replaced with coal in the stocking instead.
Writer/director Michael Dougherty hasn’t forgotten, however, and is seeking to take it out on a new generation with Krampus, an upcoming holiday horror flick starring Adam Scott, Toni Collette, and Allison Tolman (of Fargo-reboot fame). The first trailer has just been released, and it actually looks pretty fun and intriguing based on the lack of CGI and the subsequent emphasis on creepy-looking practical props (please continue to be a trend, please continue to be a trend).
Krampus is in theaters December 4.
