As Chicago is beginning to kick off its summer street festival season, Empty Bottle’s two-day Warm Love Cool Dreams fest returned over the weekend for its second year, balancing the casual atmosphere of those outdoor events with the high-caliber lineup of a more traditional music festival. Taking over the Salt Shed’s outdoor and indoor stages was yet another eclectic lineup topped by Courtney Barnett, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Toro y Moi—along with a selection of local luminaries including Whitney and Tortoise—with plenty else to do on the venue grounds, including visiting local pop-up shops slinging everything from records to vintage clothing and jewelry to flash tattoos.
