After materializing last summer on a Blood Orange single, The Durutti Column have announced Renascent, the group’s first album since 2010’s A Paean to Wilson. Inspired by the way empathy has seemingly withered from our society, frontman Vini Reilly explained about the album’s inspiration: “empathy is the essence of humanity, if you lose that ability to empathize, it’s the deadening of your own soul.”
“Vin’s songs are constantly surprising,” added bandmate Bruce Mitchell about the new music. “You want to keep on listening to them over and over again.” Regarding the band’s return, Mitchell also noted that “[i]t’s like a child that leaves home for a long time and then they return and you love them all the more all over again.”
