Things seem to be going quite well for wilt, the LA rockers who’ve secured a record deal with AWAL, hopped on some pretty impressive international bills, and, most recently, began a creative partnership with producer Carlos de la Garza, who’s also worked with Paramore, Wolf Alice, and The Linda Lindas lately. Yet their new single “Nothing Good to Cry About” explores how none of that seems to fend off intrusive thoughts. “How do we really feel behind the scenes, behind our care-free social media presence?” the band noted. “The song is really for anyone who’s looked at their life and thought: ‘Everything’s fine, so why am I still unhappy?’”

The song itself is far from forlorn, though, with its anthemic chorus soaring over the sharp, not entirely un-Paramore-like guitar jabs that introduce it. “The music just flowed—we felt this synergy we hadn’t had before,” the band added. “It brought us closer than we’d ever been, and we think you can hear that.” The track’s Jacq Justice–directed video only reinforces this image of a locked-in band, with the quartet banging the song out onstage to rooms both packed and empty with equal fervor. “We just wanted something that reflected the energy of the song and our performances,” said the band. “There’s a deliberate contrast between shots of us playing to an empty room—which is how it’s sometimes felt being unrecognized on support tours—and a packed room of fans, which is where we're going.”
