Princess Goes was officially formed nearly a decade ago, but the band’s roots go deeper to earlier in the 2010s when Michael H. Hall, Matt Katz-Bohen, and Peter Yanowitz shared the stage as members of the fictional band Hedwig and the Angry Inch during a 2014 run of the popular play of the same name. Now two albums deep with a third planned for later this year, the trio have achieved a remarkable chemistry that tends to be unique to artists whose collaboration spans a dozen years. “Our collaboration has grown more intuitive, free-flowing, and porous,” Hall remarks of the new material he recently recorded with his group.
Before sharing any details of the forthcoming LP, the band returns today with the project’s second single following May’s “Stranger.” “Sincere Chroma” sees Princess Goes taking things in stride, with the vibey synths and cool vocal effects contrasting with the turmoil of the song’s lyrics. “In a perfect world, we all deserve a tidy closure,” Hall says. “But that’s not the world we live in. It gets sticky in the weeds and mucked up with all the asshole dandelions. However you respond to it all, it’s best not to be a dick about it.” He adds that the single was inspired by something personal, though it was written to be more universally relatable. “Parting ways can leave wreckage that hindsight can’t clean up.”
Check out the track’s music video below, which features Hall and Katz-Bohen cleaning up their bandmate Yanowitz’s shaggy hair with a new ’do he seems to approve of.
