This Is Lorelei, the solo project by Water From Your Eyes guitarist Nate Amos, have announced a brand new album called The Singer In My Band. It's the first This Is Lorelei record to be released by Matador Records, and is preceded by the gorgeously wistful track "Billy Came Back," the video for which can be seen below.

The third album proper from the project, after 2024's Box For Buddy, Box For Star and last year's Holo Boy, The Singer In My Band tells the stories of many different characters, one of whom is the titular Billy. It's a beautiful, haunting track that feels both lost in time and wrapped in sadness from the moment it begins.

It's easy to hear, even from this song, that this record was largely written while Amos was on tour. That's something accentuated by the nostalgic video directed by Alan "Rickman" Official, which, much like the song, captures not just the vastness of America, but the distance between the American Dream and American reality.

“I sent my dad the album after I finished it," said Amos in statement, "and he said it was kind of an 'on the road beatnik' album and that kind of reframed it for me. It really is like a collection of chaotic experiences that you have while traveling. They’re also very much little works of fiction with elements of truth to them.”

You can get that first glimpse of the dusty, magical world he's created below:
