Last month, Steve Lacy announced that his new album, Oh Yeah?, will be released on July 26. Today, the GRAMMY Award-winning musician (and former guitarist for The Internet) has shared its latest single. And, to answer its own question, it's very cool indeed.
The track is particularly cool because it features SZA, with the two artists blending their talents to devastating effect. Lacy's third album was self-produced and written after a period spent abroad. It's billed as "a record for guitar kids who love synths and synth kids who love guitars."
Musically, it's a slow, soulful number, but lyrically it's not quite as romantic as it sounds. Lacy examines why he's "never learned to love properly" and why he constantly cheats. He even admits, "I don't even trust myself." SZA's vocals complement Lacy's perfectly, and the pair really do sound like two at-odds lovers trying to work things out in the face of his infidelity.
Another big name featured on the album is neo-soul legend Erykah Badu, who appears on a track called "Pure Colour." That one's not available to hear just yet, but you can listen to "Is It Cool?" below.
