Nashville’s The Sewing Club fall directly in line with bands like Momma and Rocket before them, specializing as they do in fuzzed-out indie-pop that’s a bit too grungy to warrant a “bedroom-pop” designation. They cite Veruca Salt and The Breeders as influences—as well as more recent bands like Wishy and Slow Pulp—with their youthful energy manifesting on their upcoming debut album Sew as a certain angst that comes with navigating relationships throughout your twenties. “The people you thought you'd know forever slowly become strangers,” the band philosophizes, “while everything else moves faster than you can keep up with.”
Ahead of the record’s October 2 release via Born Losers, today they’re sharing the lead single “Alright Ok,” which they describe as both a live favorite and the “most upbeat” cut among the 10 featured on Sew’s track list. “While on tour with Chokecherry it was always the song that got people’s attention, and welcomed them to move around,” the band notes, pointing out that producer Calvin Lauber helped them stack “10 to 12 guitars” amid the massive crunch heard on the final recording. “I think that really comes across on the recorded version of the song.” As for the lyrics, they share that they were inspired by struggling to be on the same page as a romantic partner—or even just an acquaintance—and finding peace with “whatever” being the energy.
