Lollapalooza returned to a flooded Grant Park this past weekend for its muddiest edition in years, with Chicago’s recent geyser epidemic thankfully sparing the festival grounds from devolving into a spectacle on par with the infamy of Woodstock ’99. Even in the midst of nu-metal’s reappraisal, Lolla 2026 differed in several other notable ways, not least of which being the dominance of female pop stars across the four-day weekend: Charli XCX, Lorde, Tate McRae, Olivia Dean, and JENNIE were among this year’s headliners, though it was electropop artist Slayyyter whose performance was the highlight, a capstone on the year in which her third album Wor$t Girl in America positioned her as pop’s most exciting new voice. Echoing Chappell Roan’s historic 2024 performance, Slayyyter’s massive draw ultimately prompted organizers to move her from a side stage to the main stage.

Elsewhere, beyond the cathartic chaos of a Turnstile set, the continued buzz of Geese, and hometown heroes Smashing Pumpkins making their first Lolla appearance since 1994, the festival’s defining moments came courtesy of a stacked lineup of women. Massive crowds turned out for those aforementioned headliners in addition to sets from Maria Zardoya’s Not for Radio, Wet Leg, Sienna Spiro, Audrey Hobert, Ethel Cain, and Zara Larsson. Even the Pumpkins leaned on another young superstar to make an impact with their Friday night headlining set, with a surprise appearance by Olivia Rodrigo.
