After playing two new songs over the weekend during their rousing Route du Rock headlining set in France, Fontaines D.C. have confirmed that their fifth studio album, Dopamine Chamber, will arrive via XL Recordings on October 16. The album was produced by James Ford and is preceded by lead single “Marianne,” which is out now. The first taste of Dopamine Chamber is a swaggering, new wave–inspired jam with a polished chorus built for the festival stages they‘ll surely be conquering this time next year.

Band leader Grian Chatten came up with a formula to describe this LP versus its predecessor. “I think Romance was maybe 60 per cent human and 40 per cent corrupted by automation, and a loss of feeling,” he shared. “This one feels more like 60 per cent corrupted—the mask is wearing the face a little more. I felt it would be more powerful to leave the hope out and reflect the ugliness honestly. This one needed to feel more like a catastrophic warning.”
