Mogwai have announced a new career-spanning compilation entitled Happy Tears, which is preceded by a brand new song, the Iggy Pop-assisted “Underground.” The collection will be released on January 8 via both two- and four-LP sets (the latter features 13 bonus tracks: six unreleased tunes, two remixes, two live tracks, and three rarities), in addition to two-disc CD and digital formats.
Speaking about their collaboration, Iggy said: “I’ve always liked Mogwai. The opening of the track reminded me of the crushing modern loneliness. The sung vocal, which was arranged by Matt Sweeney, felt like it was made for someone who is pissed off and doesn’t mind saying so.”
Mogwai have also announced a forthcoming feature-length audio documentary called Happy Tears: The Story of Mogwai. The project is described by the band as “an oral history of three decades of inspiration, independence, music and friendship.”
