Hardcore-punk outfit Soul Glo recently announced their first album in nearly five years, which is exciting enough news in its own right. Yet a quick glimpse at the track list only intensified that sense of anticipation: Na I’m Gon Grab Allat’s guest list includes rappers MIKE and Bbymutha, Oxbow’s Eugene Robinson, Commitment’s Tati Salazar, Mannequin Pussy bassist Bear Regisford, and, most intriguingly, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe.
It’s this latter collaboration which drops today, wherein Adebimpe dramatically expands his main project’s collaborative sonic universe with a heated verse on “Ppl Worried” that sees him mimic Soul Glo frontman Pierce Jordan’s manic, quick-paced delivery. It’s fun to hear the guy who gave us “Wolf Like Me” 20 years ago continue to demonstrate his range, though perhaps “fun” may not be the most fitting word for what is ultimately a song lamenting a period of grief-induced cocaine addiction.
Check out the track below, and pre-order Na I’m Gon Grab Allat here before it drops January 15 via Epitaph.
