Is it possible to be a blue-collar psych rocker? To punch the clock and grind on wah-powered solos from nine to five? To stamp out high-quality material all day long? That certainly seems to be the case. Whether it’s Ty Segall‘s round-the-clock production or Wand‘s breakneck release cycle, there’s been some serious engine revving coming out of west coast garages in the past few years.
Add Kelley Stoltz‘s name to that list. Already beloved in his native San Francisco, Stoltz is cranking out three records this fall alone—two full lengths and an EP. And like his contemporaries to the south, it’s all sharp, intelligently written, and artistically powerful stuff.
Today, we’re premiering “Crossed Mind Blues,” a loping, reverb-driven blues number that flirts with the idea of going all “Spirit in the Sky” but instead snuggles into a deep groove and keeps its eyes on the ground. The cut’s taken from In Triangle Time, which is out November 6 on Castle Face. You can see the album’s art and track list—and take a listen to bonus track “Put That In Your Pipe,” from the forthcoming 4 New Cuts EP—below.
