In The Icarus Line’s “El Sereno,” a cheap-sounding organ drones at a hangover frequency. It needles a raging splash of wah guitar while singer Joe Cardamone’s voice hangs from the bottom of the track like it’s clinging to a window sill. Way back in the mix, a pair of voice sing something about black water. To say that Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds haunt “El Sereno,” whose video we’re pleased to be premiering today, does the song no disservice; Cardamone sounds like the protagonist of a Cave song, someone who was touched by that specter and now has no choice to but to talk about what he’s seen.
“El Sereno” is taken from All Things Under Heaven, the LA band’s latest record, which was released (appropriately enough) in October, and which features no less a demon than Bad Seed Warren Ellis. You can check out the video below, in which Cardamone rides around LA looking dopesick and annoyed while his companion rants and tosses dollar bills at him.
The Icarus Line are currently on the road with Scott Weiland. Those dates are below.
