It’s been a poignant couple of weeks for The Arcs—the new side-project from Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys—as the band happened to be playing a show in support of their LP Yours, Dreamily in Paris on the night of the attacks. They were just a few miles away at Le Trianon, which is a very similar venue to Le Bataclan. Auerbach detailed his experience and his subsequent “survivors’ remorse” to Rolling Stone this past week.
Prior to that night, The Arcs had already detailed an upcoming special Record Store Day release called The Arcs vs. the Inventors Vol. 1, which features collaborations with artists that have influenced the group. Dr. John and David Hidalgo of Los Lobos were previously announced to be on the collaborative record, but today it was revealed that the six-song 10” will also feature a song cowritten with David Berman of Silver Jews, titled “Young.”
Of the surprise collaboration (which makes sense, in a way, since both Auerbach and Berman live in Nashville), Auerbach had this to say:
We’ve been meeting at night, writing together for a few years. This is the first time we’ve shared any of that. The Arcs have recorded more songs from the collaboration and we hope to release more of it very soon.
Berman, who announced the end of Silver Jews in 2009, has been relatively quiet in recent years, particularly on the music front. However, Bob Nastanovich hinted earlier this year at the return of Silver Jews, and Berman’s fresh activity via The Arcs track—available to listen on the Record Store Day site—would be a good sign in that regard.
