Last night, at its opera house in Washington D.C., the 2015 Kennedy Center Honors were held and hosted by Stephen Colbert. For its thirty-eighth year, the organization recognized the lifetime careers of artists and performers whose unparalleled contributions have shaped the cultural landscape of America for the better. 2015’s recipients were Star Wars creator George Lucas, broadway star Rita Moreno, Sounder actress Cicely Tyson, classical composer/conductor Seiji Ozawa, and legendary singer-songwriter Carole King.
Each honoree was celebrated with tribute videos and live performances of their work by close friends and colleagues including James Taylor and Aretha Franklin for King, Yo-Yo Ma for Ozawa, James Earl Jones and Martin Scorsese for Lucas, Viola Davis and Kerry Washington for Tyson, and Rosie Perez for Moreno.
Even though the star-studded night is over, America will be able to relive it on December 29, when the full event is aired on CBS.
