The first half of Warpaint bassist/vocalist Jenny Lee Lindberg’s solo debut (as jennylee), right on!, is what will make listeners return to it. Those five tracks, including slow-burning opener “Blind” and catchy lead single “Never,” showcase the best of Lindberg’s witchy vocals and thick bass lines. They’re dreamy, atmospheric, and sometimes creepy, which is to say that they don’t stray too far from Lindberg’s work with Warpaint. Unfortunately, the second half of right on! is so atmospheric that it slips into the background, and the album ends with a whimper. If you’ve worn out your New Order and Siouxsie albums, you may want to slip right on! into your rotation, though; it doesn’t rank with the output of those artists, but it’s something fresh. “It’s been a long, lonely winter,” Lindberg sings on the album’s fourth track, and with its goth groove and quiet frenzy, right on! is a good soundtrack to a low-key December dance party.
