2015 was good to Kendrick Lamar. Or, really, Kendrick Lamar was good to 2015. The Compton native released To Pimp a Butterfly (the best album of the year), toured the country at major festivals and in intimate venues, and became a generational icon for California’s 35th district. 2016 seems to be shaping up pretty well for the SoCal rapper with a collaboration with Kanye West out in the world, a hyped joint LP with J. Cole reportedly on the way, and eleven Grammy nominations under his belt. In anticipation for the fifty-eighth Grammys—which will be broadcast live on both coasts for the first time—a new commercial featuring Lamar’s hometown rapping “Alright” has been released.
Check out the inspiring video below and make sure to tune in to CBS on February 15 to watch Lamar perform at the Grammy ceremony (and hopefully head home with a Beyoncé-sized pile of statues).
