Imagine you’re in a traveling punk band, and after playing the last show of a long and arduous tour, you return to the green room at some dive bar in rural Oregon and find a fresh corpse. Now imagine you’re trapped in that room by the killers, all of your worst stereotypes about country folk festering and being fed by the viciousness of your captors.
That’s the premise of Green Room, the new film from Jeremy Saulnier. The band in question—The Ain’t Rights—are forced by circumstance to play a skinhead venue run by Patrick Stewart. After serenading the crowd with the Dead Kennedys anthem “Nazi Punks Fuck Off,” they (along with their touring pal Amber, played by Imogen Poots) return to their appropriately grimy green room to find a female patron slaughtered and bleeding.
The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall, and now that it’s nearing its official release, you can check out the trailer below.
