Boulevards at SXSW for Original Tracks

It’s not easy to bring the funk without a rhythm section, and it sure isn’t easy to bring it early in the morning during SXSW. But when you carry the funk within you like a flame that needs constant stoking, as does Jamil Rashad (a.k.a. Boulevards), what’re a couple of small obstacles like that other than opportunities? He rolled into Austin’s Péché, where we were camped out for FLOODfest this year, and delivered a whiplash pocket-sized version of “Got to Go,” the first single from his first EP (and a standout from his debut LP, this spring’s Groove!).

It’s the third installment in our new Original Tracks video series, in which we team up with Original Penguin to bring you stripped-down performances from some of the brightest new stars rising in the musical skies. Last week, Penguin rolled out Boulevards’s “Up On Your Love,” and today, we’re pleased to be premiering “Got to Go.” Check it out below, and take a peek at the rest of the Original Tracks series here.
