Honus Honus made his (excellent excellent) name with Man Man back in the aughts, and if you got sick of seeing dudes with handlebar mustaches and hearing bands playing gypsy-inflected circus music back then, you likely have him to blame. Them’s the breaks when you’re setting the trends, but it’s worth remembering the gleeful insanity of Man Man’s live shows, and the careful construction of 2008’s Rabbit Habit, which deftly toed the line between the campy send-ups of the B-52’s and the hardly concealed menace of Mr. Bungle.
Now, Honus² is back with his solo debut Use Your Delusion, and while he’s still working that monster stache, his sound has evolved into a kind of symphonic horror show—“apocalyptic pop,” he calls it, and given the state of things, it’s hard to imagine anything more appropriate. Just last week, he released the single “The Stripper Has No Navel,” and today we’ve got a little bonus Honus for you: Use Your Delusion opener “Vampires in the Valley.” Give it a listen below.
