If you weren’t up for the cross-country trip to hear twenty-four minutes of brand new music a few hours before the rest of the country last weekend, Governors Ball proved more than conciliatory as a festival for the rest of all.
Spanning three full days and—for considerably more people—conveniently located in the wild Manhattan back country, Governors lived up to the alpine expectations set by previous years, featuring notable sets by Travis Scott, James Blake, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Kali Uchis, Wolf Alice, and more. While the weekend wasn’t entirely free of the beefs and general polarization of the weird things happening in rap right now, Joyce Jude Lee’s snapshots of the festival suggest it was a much-needed vacation.
