It’s safe to say Bon Iver has grown a bit since their painfully isolated debut over ten years ago—boasting Grammy victories and Kanye collabs, Justin Vernon’s increasingly experimental project has evolved from solo recordings to sold-out arena shows with curious fluidity.
Leading up to the group’s highly anticipated fourth album, they’ve teamed up with WeTransfer to present the mini-doc Bon Iver: Autumn, teasing their upcoming tour and reminiscing on the past. At twelve minutes, the Andrew Swant–directed video details new sound systems and light-and-mirror installations they’ll be using to recreate the intimate feel of their early shows for a considerably larger audience.
“Any time an artist the caliber of Bon Iver is willing to pull back the curtain and share some insight into the creative process, it’s a huge privilege that we wanted to be involved in however possible,” said Jamal Dauda, Head of Music at WeTransfer, who previously collaborated with Solange and FKA twigs on similar video projects. “Justin and his team crafted a beautiful, insightful piece around taking the intimacy of a live show and continuing to grow that at scale. We’re always excited about the opportunity to partner and explore unique creative communities and this was another amazing opportunity to do just that.”
