Save Face is mainly the project of Tyler Povanda, though as the band’s new video for “Bummer” shows, he could never do it alone. Joined by a quickly expanding cast of vaguely familiar punk and emo figures (including members of Mom Jeans and Just Friends), the Zack Miller–directed clip sees Povanda and a fire-hazard’s worth of collaborators jamming the single out in a garage—an apt visual metaphor for the community his scene has cultivated to back him up as he bellows the lyrics “What am I supposed to do?”

Over “Sweater Song” guitar melodies and threatening squeals of reverb, “Bummer” opens up into a killer chorus that, well, feels like it’s actually being played by a few dozen people. Culminating in a breakdown as enormous as the amp projecting it, the single somehow overshadows the My Chemical Romance cover it complements on their forthcoming split with fellow West Coast emo rockers Graduating Life (who, let it be known, have a track called “Check Out That Band Save Face”).

The split drops September 12 via Pure Noise/Epitaph. You can pre-order it here. Catch the band on tour with Just Friends and The Sonder Bombs at the dates below.
