Last month, Ben Cook proved his versatility by accidentally releasing the first of two lightweight jangle pop records as Young Guv largely at odds with the silver-lining guitar he contributes to hardcore heavyweights Fucked Up and the noisy lo-fi hiss of his past projects like The Bitters and Roommates.

Today, Cook is revealing details for the follow-up to GUV I, unsurprisingly called GUV II, which will drop October 25 via Run for Cover. Along with the news comes “Try Not to Hang on So Hard,” an also-unsurprisingly warm, catchy, scuzzed-out pop number. If it feels a little too comfy, that may be Cook’s acid talking:

“I was house-sitting for my mom and looking at all the photos and all the very British trinkets she keeps around and on her walls that make her happy,” he notes of the song’s origins. “It had a pretty profound emotional effect on me, probably due to the LSD, so I wrote a song about how it’s OK to feel a little lost or lonely and to keep things around you that make you feel comforted.”

GUV II is out October 25 via Run for Cover. You can pre-order it here.
