Last week, instrumental post-rockers GLACIERS quietly shared one of the first great records of 2020: a sweeping three-song EP entitled Buried Inside, released via the group’s own label, Sound of Glaciers. The monumental, reverbed-out riffage and heavy percussion mirrors the raw power of bands like This Will Destroy You and Mogwai, lacking the introspective breaks popularized by Explosions in the Sky.
“The Brave Son” is the EP’s opener, and today the band is sharing a video to accompany the piece. Imposing a visual narrative over the music—opening with sweeping drone shots, later following a teen who we can presume is the titular brave son—feels natural for any post-rock ballad, but the Jason Apple–directed footage feels particularly suited to GLACIER’s epic soundscapes.
