Since committing to joining Drug Church, Self Defense Family’s Patrick Kindlon has released three impressive hardcore-punk LPs with the band, most recently grinding out 2018’s aggressive Cheer. While there’s still no word on a follow-up, the band is tiding us over with a stressed-out new single, “Bliss Out.”

“Palm reader warns me, ‘more of this shit’ / Is it forever though? ‘Man, you know it is,’” Kindlon growls on the track, which hardly sounds removed from the rest of the group’s catalog. It’s as cathartic as it is relatable, detailing the personal and societal frustrations of this dumb period we call late capitalism.

“Ever have a run of bad luck so bad you wondered what god you offended?” Kindlon shares of the track’s inspiration. “This song is about going to a fortune teller and having them tell you, ‘sorry, bro. Fairness left the building. Get under a desk because the nukes are inbound.’”

Stream it below via their label Pure Noise, and read on for the band’s upcoming tour dates alongside Thrice, mewithoutYou, and Holy Fawn.
