Back in December 2012, Chance the Rapper was just another aspiring Chicago artist hoping to make an impact on the game. His breakthrough mixtape, Acid Rap, was less than six months from release—but there was enough buzz from his debut, 10 days, to lock down his first headlining show in Minneapolis, MN.

“Before the show, we invited Chance and Pat the Manager over to the apartment to kick it and do a video interview with Lizzo,” GreenRoom magazine shared in a 2013 video that resurfaced today, thanks to Chance sharing a clip of the interview on Instagram.

“Anybody recognize the woman interviewing me?? Give you a hint we’re playing the same Houston festival in a couple weeks and have the same number of GRAMMYs,” Chance posted on Instagram along with the clip. “Guys, this video is so dope to see… I remember it like it was yesterday and it was EIGHT years ago. Wow man. I’ve watched Lizzo work her ass off to become the biggest act in the world and it was nothing but her and her day 1 bestfriends’ hard work, and her own God given Talent. I am immensely proud of her and so inspired by her journey.”

You can watch the full six-minute video below to see “Chance and Lizzo talk about SXSW ’12, his beat selection on 10 Day, growing up in the Chatham (Southside Chicago), and his outlook on the Acid Rap project.”
