It’s becoming increasingly clear that the world of music cannot contain Grimes. Tonight in Los Angeles, the artist is launching her debut fine art show, Selling Out. The mixed media show offers up a variety of work from Grimes, known to friends, family, and Elon Musk as Claire Boucher. The most interesting item for sale, however, is a legal document. The deed gives the purchaser a percentage of Grimes’ soul.

“I didn’t want anyone to buy it, so I said we should just make it $10 million and then it probably won’t sell,” she told Bloomberg about the concept. Working with a lawyer to draft the document, Grimes had a change of heart. “The deeper we got with it, the more philosophically interesting it became. Also, I really wanted to collaborate with my lawyer on art. The idea of fantastical art in the form of legal documents just seems very intriguing to me.”

Selling Out is launching across two websites simultaneously: The show can be experienced on Gallery Platform Los Angeles (May 28 through June 3) and Maccarone Los Angeles (May 28 through August 31).

“I made art 10, 12 years before I ever touched a keyboard,” Grimes stressed to Bloomberg. “I see myself as a visual artist first and foremost, and I’ve always felt strange that people know me for music.”
