It’s a pretty relatable phenomenon: leaving a completely ambiguous note in your phone, which you intend to someday flesh out as an idea, but which remains in the purgatory of your phone’s notes app for years. This was the case for “Don’t Blame NY,” the note-turned-soulful-jam written by UK songwriter Liam Bailey. “I typed ‘Don’t blame New York’ into my phone as I took my seat on the plane back to London, where I shall begin again,” the songwriter shares.
Now the note will live on as a single on Bailey’s forthcoming LP Ekundayo, due out November 13 on Big Crown Records. While the song’s been out since May, the songwriter’s sharing a live video of him performing the single at Diamond Mine Studios in New York, which captures the joys of escaping a creative rut, moving on from his old life in New York, and, of course, finally getting around to deleting that old note.
