Since we last heard from Jenny Owen Youngs in 2019, the LA-based songwriter has released a series of singles, demos, B-sides, and acoustic takes to follow up her Night Shift EP—and since inviting her to record a “Neighborhoods” session for us last fall she uprooted and relocated to the East Coast.
For the performance—recorded in her “new neighborhood, in Maine wood beside a salt creek inlet from the Atlantic”—she opted to cover Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” rejiggering it as a wistful acoustic recollection from its less convincing, pounding original form.
