It feels like just yesterday that Bernie Sanders was once again asking for our financial support, a plea that launched a thousand (or, more realistically, hundreds of thousands) of other pleas using a screencap from a fundraising video the Senator shared in December 2019 as a meme source. Well, just over a year later, and there’s a new Bernie format you’ve surely seen by now—Sanders sitting patiently and at a distance seemingly greater than six feet from other attendees of Joe Biden’s Inauguration, wearing the same coat over a similar classic Bernie fit he rocked in the previous meme.

One particular genre of the new meme that’s hit the music scene is the imposition of Bernie into classic album artwork, gracing the covers of familiar LPs from Minor Threat to Kanye West to Jane’s Addiction. He perhaps looks most natural placed behind the counter of a merch table, as tweeted by PUP’s tour manager. Sanders has yet to issue an official statement on the trend.
