2020 was supposed to be a lot of things to a lot of people—and unless it was anyone’s New Year’s resolution to watch seven seasons of a TV show they hate because they’ve run out of other things to do at home, none of those things came to fruition. For the punks in Dentist, it was the year they aimed to follow up their surfy 2018 LP Night Swimming—a resolution which looks like it will likely see a belated completion.

“Instead of making music that reflected on the depression that set in during lockdown, we decided to work on an album that would inspire us and our listeners to hang in there and look forward to better times ahead,” the band shared in a statement regarding the forthcoming project. “Our new album is fueled by both the struggle and excitement of getting to a better place—with upbeat, melodic and fuzzed out songs, as exemplified in our first single for 2021.”

That single, the rugged-yet-endearing “Don’t Let Me Catch You,” echoes the shred-heavy, begs-to-be-heard-live garage-rock bounce of their best tunes. While they can’t promise a live gig any time in the near future, you can see them jam the track on a beach in between bizarre scenes of crime in the music video for the track below.
