Last year, Paramore’s Hayley Williams released a solo album Petals for Armor. Since then, she’s been nurturing that creative momentum while unable to tour, covering classics from Massive Attack to Bjork, while blending her own teas, and listening to Jessica Pratt. Williams also released a three-song EP Petals for Armor: Self-Serenades this past December, which featured the acoustic versions of “Simmer” and “Why We Ever” as well as a brand new track, “Find Me Here.” It’s a lovely, subdued song with plush acoustic guitar plucks. “Long as I am loving you / You’ll never be alone / Long as you keep wanting me around,” she sings. She offers distanced support for a loved one while they journey into a “delicate darkness.”

In the new year Williams is still generous with musical offerings, leaking her own unreleased song “My Limb.”—she delivered the track by hand on a burned CD (with a sanctuary candle) to a fan in Nashville. Now it seems that mysterious single might be a part of a larger release. Yesterday, Williams announced that a new album FLOWERS for VASES / descansos is out February 5 (which is tomorrow!).

Williams posted a note on her Instagram story that FLOWERS for VASES  “isn’t really a follow-up to Petals for Armor. If anything, it’s a prequel, or some sort of detour between parts 1 and 2 of Petals.” She also commented that she had a “long and poetic press release” but decided to scrap it. Instead, she listed these important factors: She wrote and performed this album in its entirety, which is a first for her, at her home in Nashville after a very hard year, and Paramore is still a band. FLOWERS for VASES has its own website, which features an animated visual of a descanso—a memorial site for a violent or unexpected death—and a short lo-fi clip of Williams with an acoustic guitar singing “one more time.”

While we wait for the album’s release, check out the album artwork below and her full statement.
