We’re two weeks out from the Norway-based pair producer Ol’ Burger Beats and emcee Vuyo sharing their collaborative LP Dialogue., and today they’re adding two more pre-album singles to the two they’ve already shared from the lengthy twenty-track project. “Not for Sale” and “Dusty Grooves” follow up the lo-fi, jazz-infused tracks “Athens” and “Enough for You,” doubling down on the technical sounds and complex wordplay of those tunes.
Vuyo notes that the former is “a perfect anti-single, with some in-your-face sonics that get complimented by lyrics from the same genetic material.” OBB agrees that “Not for Sale” is “an uncompromising track where every word and every tone tells a story of subculture and anti-establishment. The beat is based on a simple upright bass sample, elegant piano details, and sprinkly percussion, and a crazy distorted synth line enters on the hook.”
OBB goes on to place “Dusty Grooves on the other end of the jazz-rap spectrum. “The dusty organ and guitar groove give you the vibe of a small jazz club, and the sample is chopped in a way that honors J Dilla’s signature style, where tempo and time signatures are irrelevant,” he notes. Vuyo condenses that track down to two words: mellow and introspective. “A truly laidback gem that gives me the perfect canvas to convey some of our journey to where we are today with this album.”
