Mello Music Group has long been an inspiring story of a take-no-shit-from-the-music-industry label thriving within the music industry, boasting iconic releases by the likes of Open Mike Eagle, Georgia Anne Muldrow, Quelle Chris, Joell Ortiz, Homeboy Sandman, and Apollo Brown. They’ve earned the right to flex a bit, and that’s just what they’re doing with the forthcoming release of a new comp called Bushido, which sees a sprawling twenty-song track list composed of exciting collaborations between the label’s roster of emcees and producers. Like Wu-Tang before them, the label taps into feudal Japanese culture with the record’s concept, with “Bushido” referring to the code of honorable warfare practiced by the samurai.

The exciting collabs include songs with Quelle Chris and The Alchemist, OME and Namir Blade, Murs and Georgia Anne Muldrow, and !llmind and Mr. Lif’s Perceptionists, as well as the first sample of the LP, “Black Rock,” featuring Joell Ortiz, Namir, Solemn Brigham, and Mello’s newest signee Stalley. Hear that track below, and find the full track list here.
