Releasing his first album at 63, it always seemed clear that age didn’t mean a thing to Louisianan blues rocker Robert Finley. After time spent in the army and making a living through carpentry, the musician began setting his music to tape back in 2016, and is today announcing his third full-length album, called Sharecropper’s Son, set to be released by Dan Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound over the summer. The project was also produced by the Black Keys vocalist, who can also be heard on guitar (and seen in the video) on the album’s first single, “Souled Out on You.”
The track introduces the project as a soulful take on the blues, warping Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ spooky classic of a similar name into something a little more conventional. “[It’s] the story of a relationship that’s ending,” Finley shared in a press statement. “It’s about someone who takes on everything in the relationship. All the good and the bad and even after all of that, they notice that it just isn’t going to work out and the relationship has run its course. I took all I could take and I’m starting my life over.”
