It was nearly a year ago that Worcester, MA’s Good Sleepy were signed to the punk staple No Sleep Records (I’m sure they’re sick of the No Sleep/Good Sleepy jokes so I’ll drop it…), and shortly after that one-year anniversary the trio will be dropping their first official release through the label. Everysinglelittlebit is set to drop on May 20, with the record’s first track arriving today in the form of “Childlike”—a notably less ramshackle take on the intersection of punk and mathy emo than what was heard on last February’s self-released Dessert Before Dinner EP.
While their sound is more advanced, the subject matter of the single is rooted in the obstacles of youth. “I think most people agree it always would be easier to be younger, but it’s horrible to be treated like a child; manipulated, played with, and so on,” the band shares. “There’s a child in all of us, and I explore mine in this song. Because of this, ‘Childlike’ is really bittersweet to me. It’s hopeful, but also hopeless. It gives a good idea of the sound we are going for on this album.”
