Joy Downer released her debut album Paper Moon last year, and last night she made her national TV debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden. For her performance, she sang “Over & Out,” which was directed by BAFTA-winning director Sam Taylor-Johnson, and featured her partner, producer, and husband (her joke, not mine) Jeffrey Downer, and some assistance on bass from Grammy-winning musician Beck. There was also enthusiastic drumming from tap dancer Lauren Brown.

In a white leotard decorated with lace and flowing strings, Downer darts around the room as she sings about a loss of self. “Can you hear me / Over and out,” she sings during the chorus. Suddenly, the assistant engineer dressed as an astronaut makes sense.
