Nashville trio Okey Dokey have a new EP on the way called Leaky Sealing, and today we’re getting the peppy lead single “Are You Up?” The EP’s wordplay is a nod to the inability to secure oneself after reported damage. “I was hoping to draw attention to all the leaks. The ones above our heads and the ones above our souls. We live in a world we barely know,” explains frontman Aaron Martin.
“Are You Up” is a jovial track that documents that moment when you wake up and are simply happy to be alive. Those are the days to live for, when you feel well-rested and rise without any stressors weighing on you. Maybe it’s a day off you haven’t taken in a couple weeks, or that lazy Sunday you can embrace because you’re actually caught up with work. Whatever the case, “Are You Up” soundtracks the anticipation to rejoice in a new day.
Martin details the track’s personal inspiration, saying “I met my partner a little before the pandemic started and we now live together and the dream is real. This song is very much about the excitement period that we all hope to keep alive.”
