Last time we checked in with Grace Mitchell, the young songwriter was hot on the heels of her 2016 EP Raceday, and excitedly listing influences she’d like to incorporate into future recordings, like Hall & Oates, Patti Smith, and Lou Reed. Five years, a handful of new releases, a memorable SXSW party, and this whole global pandemic thing later, Mitchell is returning to FLOOD today to unveil her latest single just in time for spring, the colorful and upbeat “Mango.”
While things haven’t quite returned to normal just yet, the song’s romantic hues anticipate a time when weird Tinder dates and late-night, post-date talks with close friends are back on the table. “[‘Mango’ is] a song you blast in your car after getting dinner with your best friend to talk about a guy you met on a dating app, that wouldn’t stop talking about his ex-fiance the whole time when you met up with him to go on a hike,” Mitchell shares.
