Kevin Morby’s latest video, premiered today at the New York Times magazine, is a distinctly literal representation for the track “Dancer” (from his latest album Still Life), which features interpretive dance moves out in streets of New York and beyond. Directed by filmmaker Elizabeth Skadden, “Dancer” features performer Clare Kelly as she takes to Times Square to perform her graceful moves amongst crowds of confused tourists.
Backed by Morby’s minimal vocals and undulating guitar, Kelly’s effortless improvised choreography is a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the public space she occupies. Her moves are simple but entrancing, like much of his music. “Dancer” is somewhat of an ode to Morby’s old hometown New York as the hauntingly sparse track paints a hazy but beautiful image of the city.
Kevin Morby’s upcoming tour of the States kicks off at the end of February with Jessica Pratt and stretches through March with Ryley Walker.
