Philly psych-rock ensemble Grubby Little Hands are putting their hats in the ring today for 2021’s dreamiest release with a dual single consisting of a sharp pop track and perhaps the first real beach-ready cut of the year with “Surf Lullaby.” Preceding a planned LP entitled World So Strange due out later in the year via their new label outlet Side Hustle Records, the A-side is a minimal, humid, and catchy number that recreates the feel of waves gently lapping at your feet.

“For many songs, the writing and the production are tedious, laborious processes,” the band shares of what unsurprisingly was a painless process of putting the track together. “But with ‘Surf Lullaby’ everything was pleasantly effortless and organic. We started playing our instruments, and the music happened. We sat down with a notepad and the words came right away. Even the title was a temporary description at first, but it just stuck. We wish we could say every song we made was this easy, but this was pretty rare.”

Along with the track, the band is sharing a video that pretty efficiently translates the song’s energy into visuals depicting a listless afternoon spent at the beach soundtracked by Donnie Felton’s Kevin Parker–esque falsetto and synth sounds that recall a lap steel pedal. Watch the clip below.
