Here’s a little secret for Gen Z: getting older is not that cool. Sure, eventually you can attend 21+ shows and rent a car, but once you hit a certain age your bones usually hurt, and every couple of months there’s something new and concerning going on in some previously unthought-about part of your body, which your doctor casually tells you is just gonna be a thing from now on.

The new EP from Chicago-based songwriter Jackie Hayes sees her reckoning with the “but” faction of this tradeoff, with There’s Always Going to Be Something lead single “omg” channeling the exhaustion of aging. Yet the song itself, like its internet-lingo title, embraces youthfulness in a sharp contrast, cruising on a boom-bap beat, squealing reverb, and Hayes’ impassive vocals. “This song is about realizing that I had idealized a lot of aspects of ‘growing up,’” she shares. “The second verse is specifically about a time where I was missing the drive that I had when I was younger.”

Along with the single, Hayes is sharing a colorful video for the track, further doubling down on the youthful aesthetic the track vibes with. Watch that below, and pre-order/pre-save the EP here.
