Lil Wayne Sharpens His Katana on His New Mr. Green Collaboration

“Hall of Flying Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles” is the latest in Green’s series of ninja-themed tracks with high-profile emcees.

Lately, East Coast producer Mr. Green has been turning heads with a series of one-off singles paired with hip-hop greats, including Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, and the late DMX, which lean into the tradition of low-budget martial arts films from the 1980s. The beatsmith whose style you may recognize from his work with up-and-coming hip-hop great Westside Gunn, is sharing another single from this series today, this time alongside Lil Wayne.

“Hall of Flying Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles” sounds like what you’d imagine a hip-hop score to sound like during this period had Wu-Tang arrived a decade earlier, pairing beats that recall RZA’s minimal Ghost Dog score with Weezy’s inimitable sleepy flow as the rapper confidently sizes up his enemies.
