Minneapolis four-piece VIAL are a few weeks out from releasing their latest collection of sunshine punk, with the third single from Loudmouth dropping today. The title “Something More” could apply to the song’s lyrics about the oft-dreaded phrase within the context of a thought-to-be-carefree relationship, though equally apt is its description of the single’s amped-up energy level, recalling the danciest pockets of the late ’00s indie rock moment.
“‘Something More’ is a sweet indie rock track about a budding, naive relationship,” the band shares. “Lyrics about being clueless in love are accompanied by uptempo instrumentation and some catchy guitar riffs! ‘Something More’ is best experienced while dancing around with your friends.”
The track arrives with a video that sees the band doing exactly that through the structure of a mostly daydreamed (and at one point daydreamed-within-a-daydreamed) narrative. The playful visual features some split-screen CGI too high-tech for Brian De Palma, and, if you’re me, it might make trick you into googling the phrase “beef curtain.”
