The Brazilian-born and New York-based musician Victoria Winter makes contemplative, fuzzy bedroom-pop, and her latest single as Shower Curtain reflects on the alarming realization of self-doubt. On “Running,” Shower Curtain is avoiding her dreams and, ultimately, herself. “I feel like my art is ordinary art / I feel like my whole world is falling apart,” she sings in a hazy glow. Winter doesn’t reveal a remedy to this unsettling personal dilemma, but the recognition of imposter syndrome accompanied with a feather-light pop track makes the heavy feeling seem less daunting and isolating.
“The lyrics bring a reflection on how it feels to question your talent and capabilities as an independent artist, while in contrast [the track] has very upbeat melodies and sounds,” Winter says. “This single was produced in partnership with Vivian Kuczinsky—female artist and producer from Curitiba.” The accompanying video, directed by Harry James Clifford, finds Shower Curtain haunted by a flash mob, which seems pretty terrifying when you’re already doubting yourself.
